How to prepare for a Reiki Healing Session

It is best to approach your Reiki session in a light-hearted, open-minded way.

This would allow you to relax and enjoy yourself even more. Most likely you’ll be amazed or at least deeply intrigued by the end of the session.

Some inward reflection before the session can help you focus and get in the right frame of mind. You may want to consider all the things you want Reiki to help you with. Your list might read something like: to get rid of my knee pain, to improve my relationship with my partner, to improve my communication with my daughter, to feel more confident and at ease with myself, to be more dedicated and get better grades at school, to feel less stressed and be more productive at work, etc.

By knowing and clearly articulating what you want you set your intention to receive it. Reiki is not magic that will suddenly solve all your problems. It is miraculous, though, as it can guide you to do, say or be just in the right way to get closer to what you want.

An equally valid approach is to be completely open and let go of any expectations before and during your session. You may choose to trust the wisdom of Reiki to ‘work’ on you in whatever way will serve you best.

Try to avoid heavy meals or caffeine before your session. You may be laying down so you don’t want a heavy stomach restricting your breathing. You will be relaxing so you don’t want the excessive stimulation that caffeine brings. Fresh fruit and vegetable and enough water are the best fuels for your body.

You should lay down or sit on a bed or a chair of the choice. There may be gentle music playing if this makes you feel more comfortable.  Regardless of which option you choose, you remain fully clothed.  It is advisable to take off any jewelry or gadgets that you may be carrying. It can also help to take off your shoes, belt, and anything else that may be keeping you tight. You can use pillows or a blanket for your comfort and warmth.

Keep your eyes closed and focus on the rhythm of your breath.   It’s fine if you are used-to to any type of rhythmic breathing,  or else you may ask the healer to suggest one.  You should be ready to or intended to receive whatever energies are being sent to you for your highest good.

While receiving healing energies you may feel little heat or cold inside, itching, tingling, dizziness etc., it varies individually.  Keeping some water in non-metallic container and drinking it after the healing session will soothe you and smooth the absorption and settlement of energies.

Since Reiki is a divine energy so we discourage any kind of movement or activity during the session in respect of the energy.  But a little movement can be allowed to comfort the receiver.

You can speak up at any time during the session to share your experiences or to request a change in the setting.

Now you can close your eyes and enjoy your reiki session …
